The secret to life is balance, right? So if I have the arugula salad from Bridge Pizza with its pillowy goat cheese and pickled peppers and then I cross the street and eat a loaded donut from Veera Donuts, does that count? Do I get an “A” for effort?
January has this way of making me rethink my eating habits. As a kid, I can vividly remember my intake of gourmet chocolate like it was yesterday. My mom and dad owned a chocolate store and so chocolate and sweets ran through our blood. We respected it and never overindulged—well, maybe once or twice—but then adulthood brought on this whole notion of guilt and I found it difficult to enjoy sweets.
Now, as my head is finally de-clouding from the holiday haze of sugary things, I am clinging to places that serve up fresh, organic, and green goods. The Green Source, to me, was always the place next to the places I usually frequented. I always looked in but never went in. But now? You’ll find me there before 8 a.m. on a random weekday morning, getting the green juice to go. Missoula has this wonderful way of being there for whatever you need. Our business owners are creative and they know what we need when we need it. We need the donuts and we need the greens. Thank you, dear business owners, for serving up the balance I’m after.
This January issue promises to make you feel good physically, mentally, and emotionally. We all need to start over or freshen up at some point throughout our calendar year. I hope you’re able to recalibrate this month and do something good for yourself. Happy New Year!
