The Griz Are Back

The season opener against the University of Northern Iowa Panthers kicks off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 1 at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Get your (season) tickets at GrizTix.com. Did you know that the Northern Iowa Panthers last visited Missoula at the 2011 FCS Playoffs? The Griz beat them 48-10. Later in the month, the Griz will take on the Drake Bulldogs and Sacramento State Hornets on September 8 and 22, respectively. Both games are on Saturdays and start at 1 p.m. Go Griz!

MCT Season Is Right Around the Corner

This year audiences will be treated with performances of Sister Act, a feel-good musical comedy based on the 1992 film in which the protagonist, after witnessing a murder, finds herself hiding out in a very unCONVENTional place; Elf: The Musical, a family-friendly show based on the beloved 2003 film starring Will Ferrell as one of Santa’s “elves”; Calendar Girls, one of the most popular plays in British history that tells the real-life story behind what a group of modest, British middle-aged women did to raise money for a hospital waiting room couch; The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, the Tony-award winning musical that follows the six less-than-confident final contestants as they navigate puberty, proper spellings, and Putnam County’s colorful personalities; and Disney’s Newsies, a modern-day tale of David and Goliath in which a ragtag group confronts the most powerful, ruthless men of the era. You know you’ve always wanted to be one! Here’s your chance. Open auditions for the Missoula Community Theatre’s production of Elf: The Musical will be held on Sunday, September 30. No preparation is needed. Those auditioning will be asked to sing, act, and/or dance. All auditions are held at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts, 200 N. Put your two cents in and help plan for the future of Whitaker and Ninkpata Parks at the Park Design Workshop on Wednesday, September 12 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The workshop will be held at University Congregational Church, 405 University Ave. Workshop is open to all, including kids ages 6 and older. Imagine a world without breast cancer. That’s what the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure works toward each and every day. Join the Race on Saturday, October 13 at Caras Park for a 5K or 1-mile run/walk to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds from this Race help men and women in Montana access critical breast health and breast cancer services.
